A specialized team in general surgery at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital in Karbala announced the successful removal of a gastric tumor in its entirety from a patient in his fifties.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Hajj stated in a press interview that a 50-year-old patient from Basra presented with chronic and severe abdominal pain. The necessary medical evaluations, including an endoscopy, spiral CT scan, PET scan, and tissue biopsy, confirmed the presence of a malignant gastric tumor.
Dr. Al-Hajj explained that the initial treatment plan involved administering chemotherapy to reduce the tumor size, followed by surgical removal.
The general surgery specialist added that once the tumor size was reduced, it was completely resected along with a portion of the stomach. The surgical team also reconstructed the gastric pathway. He confirmed the operation's success, with the patient leaving the operating room in excellent health and with stable vital functions.
