A specialized orthopedic and trauma surgery team successfully performed a meniscal repair and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction for a young patient in his twenties at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital.
Dr. Ihsan Al-Faraj stated in a press interview that the 23-year-old patient presented with a complete ACL tear that had persisted for an extended period, causing knee instability and progressive damage to both the medial and lateral menisci.
Dr. Al-Faraj explained that the surgical procedure involved repairing the damaged meniscus and reconstructing the ACL. Following the surgery, the patient was referred to physiotherapy to strengthen the surrounding muscles and restore knee stability. After completing the rehabilitation phase, the patient is expected to resume his daily activities without limitations.
The orthopedic surgeon highlighted that such procedures are routinely performed at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital. These surgeries are typically conducted under regional anesthesia, including spinal or epidural anesthesia, or general anesthesia, depending on the patient's condition and age. Dr. Al-Faraj added that spinal anesthesia is often preferred for younger patients, as they are more conscious of their knee health and the potential long-term consequences of untreated injuries.
