Protruding Eyes Due to Sinusitis – A Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Procedure Provides Effective Treatment

A specialized otolaryngology team at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala successfully performed an endoscopic surgery on a child suffering from recurrent sinus infections, which had led to eye protrusion and persistent headaches.

Dr. Adel Al-Masoudi stated in a press release that the parents of a 5-year-old child sought medical attention due to their child’s recurrent eye infections, eye protrusion, and continuous headaches.

Dr. Al-Masoudi explained that clinical examinations and CT imaging of the sinuses revealed severe sinusitis, accompanied by an abscess near the eye, which caused the eye protrusion and a leftward deviation of the affected eye.

The ENT surgeon highlighted the challenges of operating on the child, emphasizing that the small nasal cavity made it difficult to clearly visualize and remove the inflamed tissue. Additionally, the proximity of the eyes and brain to the infection site increased the surgical risks.

He further noted that Alkafeel Hospital is equipped with advanced technologies such as endoscopes and laser-assisted surgical tools, which facilitated the procedure. The surgery was successfully completed, and the child was discharged in excellent health.
