A specialized neurosurgical team at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala successfully treated a woman suffering from multiple cysts in the cervical spine.
Dr. Joseph Salama, a Lebanese neurosurgeon, stated in a press release that the patient presented with severe weakness in her upper limbs and difficulty breathing. Upon reviewing her medical history, it was revealed that she had sustained a gunshot injury ten years ago and had undergone surgery at that time, after which her condition stabilized.
However, over time, the pain and weakness in her limbs returned. An MRI scan revealed multiple cysts affecting her cervical spine. She underwent another surgery at a different hospital, but the procedure failed to achieve the desired outcome.
Dr. Salama noted that a follow-up MRI confirmed the presence of these cysts, which were causing upper limb weakness and spasms affecting her respiratory center. Without urgent surgical intervention, she was at risk of losing her ability to breathe and move her upper limbs.
Using advanced surgical techniques available at Alkafeel Hospital, the medical team performed a highly successful procedure to remove the cysts completely. Following the surgery, the patient regained her health and was discharged in excellent condition
