A specialized orthopedic and trauma surgery team at Alkafeel Hospital has successfully performed a complex fracture fixation for a 28-year-old patient from Diwaniyah, who was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) and sustained multiple comminuted fractures following a car accident.
Dr. Mohanad Al-Shammari
stated:
"The patient was referred to us with severe fractures in the pelvic
acetabulum and ilium, along with multiple fractures in the forearm bones. His
condition was further complicated by osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic
disorder that causes extreme bone fragility and frequent fractures throughout
life."
The medical team conducted a highly complex surgical procedure, which involved reconstructing and stabilizing the shattered pelvic bones and fixing the other fractured bones.
Dr. Al-Shammari emphasized that Alkafeel Hospital's advanced medical technologies and specialized surgical team enabled them to successfully perform this rare and challenging procedure. The patient has left the operating room in stable condition and is now in the recovery phase.
