An ophthalmic surgery specialist at Alkafeel Hospital successfully treated a two-year-old girl suffering from strabismus and lens damage due to a previous cataract extraction. The surgeon took into consideration the unique nature of pediatric surgeries and the importance of precise post-operative care.
Dr. Hashem Al-Omidi, an ophthalmic surgeon at the hospital, stated, "One of the recent procedures we performed was for a two-year-old girl from Babil province. She had undergone a previous cataract removal surgery since she was born with congenital cataracts, which subsequently led to strabismus and lens damage."
He added, "We successfully performed strabismus correction surgery as the first stage of treatment, and we plan to proceed with intraocular lens implantation in the next phase."
Dr. Al-Omidi emphasized that pediatric surgeries require special considerations, as young children are unaware of the precautions necessary for protecting their eyes post-surgery. This necessitates exceptional precision from the surgical and nursing teams, as well as careful post-operative care. Additionally, the role of the family is crucial in ensuring successful recovery and optimal outcomes.
