Successful Complex Surgery Performed Using Ilizarov Technique at Al-Kafeel Hospital to Treat Rare Congenital Deformity

A specialized medical team at Al-Kafeel Hospital has successfully performed a complex surgical procedure using the advanced Ilizarov technique on an 18-year-old patient from Karbala suffering from a rare congenital deformity of the leg bone. The patient presented with multiple angular deformities and a limb length discrepancy exceeding 15 cm.

Dr. Mohammed Saad Al-Hares, a specialist in orthopedic surgery at the hospital, stated that the procedure required a high level of expertise and precision and lasted for more than four hours. He noted that the Ilizarov technique, combined with Al-Kafeel Hospital’s advanced medical equipment, enabled the team to correct the deformities and achieve excellent bone healing results.

Dr. Al-Hares emphasized that surgeries for this type of deformity were previously performed only abroad. However, with its cutting-edge medical technologies, Al-Kafeel Hospital is now capable of conducting such complex procedures locally in Iraq, significantly reducing the time, effort, and high costs that patients would otherwise face seeking treatment abroad.
