A specialized medical team at Al-Kafeel Hospital successfully ended the suffering of a 57-year-old patient from Karbala who had been enduring severe chronic back pain.
Dr. Amjad Al-Dafaai, a Consultant in Neurosurgery at the hospital, explained that the patient presented with intense lower back pain radiating progressively to his legs, particularly the left side. He also experienced significant difficulty sitting or lying down due to the severity of the pain.
According to Dr. Al-Dafaai, medical evaluations, including MRI scans, revealed a severe spinal canal stenosis between the lumbar vertebrae, along with spinal curvature (scoliosis). It was therefore decided to proceed with a surgical intervention involving spinal fixation from the first lumbar vertebra (L1) to the first sacral vertebra (S1).
The neurosurgeon confirmed that the operation was successfully performed. It involved vertebral stabilization, correction of the curvature, and removal of fibrotic tissues and obstructions in the spinal canal—ultimately relieving the patient’s pain and significantly improving his condition
