A specialized orthopedic and spinal surgery team at Alkafeel Hospital successfully performed lumbar vertebrae fixation using endoscopic techniques on a 25-year-old female patient.
Dr. Ahmed Qotb, speaking in a press interview, stated that the patient presented with severe back and leg pain, accompanied by weakness in her right lower limb. Clinical examinations and MRI imaging revealed lumbar disc herniations at the L4-L5 levels.
Dr. Qotb explained that the surgery involved lifting the herniated discs and decompressing the spinal cord using an endoscopic approach through very small incisions not exceeding 6 mm. He emphasized that the procedure was conducted at Alkafeel Hospital due to its availability of advanced and necessary surgical equipment.
The orthopedic surgeon noted that this minimally invasive technique significantly reduces recovery time, enabling patients to walk within hours post-surgery with minimal pain.
