A specialized medical team at Alkafeel Hospital has successfully performed a delicate eye surgery for a 14-year-old patient from Babylon Province who had lost vision in his right eye due to a traumatic injury that resulted in a corneal wound and cataract formation.
According to Dr. Haidar Abbas, an ophthalmic surgery specialist at the hospital, the child had previously undergone an unsuccessful surgical intervention at another medical facility several months earlier.
Dr. Abbas explained that the patient’s condition required a highly advanced surgical approach. A pars plana vitrectomy was performed on the affected eye, followed by the implantation of an intraocular lens using a specialized technique known as "scleral fixation." He noted that this method was necessary due to the complete loss of the lens capsule, which rendered conventional implantation techniques unsuitable.
Thanks to the combination of this innovative surgical technique, state-of-the-art equipment, and the extensive expertise available at Alkafeel Hospital, the procedure achieved outstanding results, restoring the patient's vision and significantly improving his quality of life.
