A Functional and Aesthetic Surgery: Restoring Nasal Structure and Function for a Young Patient

A specialized medical team at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala successfully performed a corrective nasal surgery for a 20-year-old patient suffering from breathing difficulties and chronic snoring.

Dr. Adel Al-Masoudi, an otolaryngology surgeon, reported that he and his team carried out a successful procedure for the young woman, who presented with nasal obstruction and deformities, in addition to both external and internal fractures.

He explained that medical and clinical evaluations, including a CT scan, revealed near-total obstruction on the left side of the nose, congenital deformities of the nasal turbinates, and significant hypertrophy that caused narrowing of the airway, accompanied by persistent snoring.

Dr. Al-Masoudi highlighted that the operation was distinguished by its dual functional and aesthetic approach, as it addressed both the functional impairments and structural deformities. This not only improved the patient’s breathing and alleviated her symptoms but also enhanced the external appearance of her nose.

In turn, Dr. Alaa Al-Sharifi, a specialist in plastic surgery, noted that following the functional correction, he and the surgical team proceeded with the aesthetic component, which included correcting the severe deviation of the nasal septum and nasal bones to restore a natural shape and improve the final appearance.

The medical team confirmed that the patient was discharged in good health, with significant improvement in her respiratory condition, enabling her to return to her normal daily activities.
