Hearing Restored in a One-Year-Old Child through a Successful Cochlear Implant Surgery
A specialized medical team in the Department of Otolaryngology at Alkafeel Hospital announced the successful cochlear implant surgery for a one-year-old child from Najaf.
Dr. Hisham Al-Moussawi explained that the parents of the child noticed early signs of hearing loss and sought medical consultation, where it was determined that the child was suffering from profound hearing impairment. Despite trials with hearing aids, the child’s condition showed no improvement.
He added, “We performed a cochlear implant surgery for the child, which was highly successful. The child has already begun to show improvement. Early detection by the parents played a major role in the success of the treatment. At this young age, children usually adapt quickly to their surroundings, and unlike older patients, they require fewer speech therapy sessions due to their natural responsiveness.”
Dr. Al-Moussawi emphasized the importance of early hearing screening for children, urging all parents to conduct hearing tests for their children at an early age to ensure proper auditory development.
