Tumor Resection and Artificial Bone Implant Restore Stability to a Child’s Knee Orthopedic Surgeon Highlights Importance of Early Diagnosis and Modern Technology

A specialized orthopedic, trauma, and joint surgery team at Alkafeel Hospital  has successfully treated an 8-year-old girl who developed severe complications after an accident that caused a fracture in the neck of the femur.
Dr. Hussam Ajmi explained that X-ray imaging revealed a bone tumor inside the femoral neck, which had led to the fracture and a rapid deterioration of the child’s condition. Advanced investigations, including a CT scan, confirmed the tumor to be osteogenic in nature, necessitating a complex surgical treatment plan.
In a meticulous surgical procedure, the team successfully removed the tumor in its entirety to maximize chances of recovery, followed by the implantation of a modern artificial bone graft to replace the affected part. The fracture was then stabilized with a closed plate fixation to ensure bone stability and accelerate healing.
Dr. Ajmi expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating: “It was indeed a challenging case, but with God’s grace and the skill of our team, we were able to perform a highly precise and complex operation. We hope the young patient achieves a full recovery.”
He further emphasized that this case represents a significant milestone in orthopedic surgery, underscoring the vital role of early diagnosis and modern medical technologies in managing complex cases, particularly bone tumors and fractures in children at an early age.
