Specialized Team at Alkafeel Hospital Performs Complex ENT Surgery
A specialized otolaryngology (ENT) team at Alkafeel Hospital successfully performed a cochlear implant for a 4-year-old child from Karbala, who had been suffering from congenital total hearing loss.
Dr. Baha Al-Anbari explained that the child was diagnosed with profound deafness since birth, and although there were initial concerns regarding the feasibility of cochlear implantation, the availability of advanced expertise and modern technology enabled the procedure to be completed within a suitable timeframe.
He added that during the surgery, a modern electronic device was implanted inside the ear to stimulate the auditory nerves, offering the child the opportunity to hear and communicate naturally in the future. Dr. Al-Anbari emphasized that cochlear implantation is a vital intervention that restores hearing ability and significantly improves the quality of life for children affected by hearing loss.
He further confirmed that the child’s postoperative condition was stable, and he was discharged in good health with his family, with continuous medical care and follow-up planned to ensure maximum benefit from the implant and achieve positive outcomes.
