As part of its ongoing efforts to raise community health awareness and within the activities of Pink October, Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital targeted the academic sector with an intensive awareness program. Dr. Anwar Al-Hashemi, a specialist in the early detection of breast diseases and cancer at the hospital, delivered a comprehensive lecture at Al-Safwa University.
The lecture, held at Al-Safwa University, aimed to provide the university's female employees and students with accurate knowledge regarding the nature of breast cancer and to empower them to spread this vital health culture within their social circles.
Dr. Al-Hashemi reviewed detailed information about the early symptoms of the disease, modern diagnostic methods, and available treatment options, focusing on the age groups most susceptible to the disease and the most effective prevention methods.
Dr. Al-Hashemi emphasized the importance of adopting a preventive approach that starts from home, stressing that regular self-examination is the primary and essential step every woman should take to detect any abnormal changes in the breast.
Dr. Al-Hashemi confirmed that the key to recovery lies in transitioning from self-examination to specialized medical screening, pointing out that a mammogram (breast imaging) is the most effective tool, especially for women over the age of forty.
The specialist explained that this screening becomes crucial for women with a first-degree family history (mother, sister, maternal aunt) of breast, uterine, or ovarian cancer.
Dr. Al-Hashemi concluded her talk by emphasizing that the major role of a mammogram lies in its ability to detect the disease in its very early stages, which raises the recovery rate to very high levels and significantly reduces advanced cases. This represents the ultimate goal of these awareness initiatives provided by Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital to support educational and social institutions.
