An Iraqi medical team at Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital successfully treated a fifty-year-old patient suffering from a colon tumor. The team performed a complex surgical procedure that lasted for two hours, during which they managed to completely remove the tumor while preserving the patient's safety, lymph nodes, and directly reconnecting the colon.
Dr. Saad Al-Aliq, a specialist in gastrointestinal and liver surgery at the hospital, explained that the patient had been experiencing abdominal pain, and upon conducting examinations, a tumor was discovered on the colon, causing a partial obstruction in the left colon. Therefore, a decision was made to perform a semi-emergency surgery to remove the tumor.
Al-Aliq added that this surgery represents the first stage of treating such medical conditions, as further stages may be required to create an opening to divert the colon and subsequently close it. He emphasized that the success of this procedure was attributed to the medical team's expertise and the utilization of cutting-edge technologies. Additionally, the presence of an intensive care unit in the hospital facilitated the performance of advanced and challenging surgeries
