Successful Removal of a Tumor from the Back of a Three-Year-Old in Iraq

An Iraqi medical team at Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital in Karbala announced the successful removal of a tumor from the back of a three-year-old child, which posed a significant threat to the child's life due to its proximity to the spinal cord.

Dr. Sarmad Al-Rubaie, a pediatric surgeon at the hospital, stated in a press interview that the three-year-old child had been suffering from a mass-like tumor on his back, firmly attached to the posterior abdominal wall and the tenth thoracic vertebra.

Al-Rubaie explained that they had been monitoring the child for some time, conducting various tests, including ultrasound, X-rays, and MRI scans. Given the tumor's proximity to the spinal cord and nerve, they performed an emergency surgical procedure, which lasted for an hour, during which they successfully completely removed the tumor.

He confirmed the success of the operation, with the child regaining full mobility in his limbs. The child was discharged from the hospital in good health, accompanied by his family.
