Mandibular Reconstruction for a Young Woman with Micrognathia

Dr. Al-Taie: Outstanding Success in Orthognathic Reconstruction Enabled by Advanced Technologies
A specialized maxillofacial surgical team at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala has successfully performed a complex reconstructive procedure to manufacture and reshape the mandible of a 16-year-old female patient suffering from congenital mandibular hypoplasia.
Dr. Radwan Al-Taie explained that the young patient, referred from plastic surgeons, had a significantly underdeveloped mandibular region since birth. Radiological imaging and precise digital measurements confirmed severe hypoplasia, which had adversely affected both her facial aesthetics and psychological well-being.
He further clarified that the treatment plan involved the implantation of a specialized material produced by an advanced U.S.-based biomedical company. The procedure included meticulous preparation of the mandibular area while preserving the sensory nerves on both sides of the lips to ensure the protection of sensory functions.
Dr. Al-Taie noted that the operation aimed to sculpt a mandibular contour harmonizing with the facial framework from both frontal and lateral perspectives, thereby providing significant aesthetic and psychological benefits. He added that modern techniques now allow for the implantation of multiple facial components, made possible through the availability of advanced biomaterials, thereby expanding reconstructive and cosmetic treatment options.
He also praised the capabilities available at Alkafeel Hospital, which enable highly sophisticated facial surgical interventions through continuous collaboration with leading international companies specializing in biomedical implants.
