Breaking the Barrier of Deafness Through a Precise Surgical Procedure

Alkafeel Hospital Restores Hearing to a 50-Year-Old Woman
A specialized Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgical team at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala has successfully performed a cochlear implant procedure on a 50-year-old woman from Karbala who had been suffering from severe and chronic hearing loss. Dr. Baha Al-Anbari stated that the patient presented to the hospital with a significant hearing deficit, having developed progressively worsening sensorineural conductive hearing loss over time. He pointed out that the patient’s condition was further complicated by her history of diabetes, which had exacerbated her hearing problems in recent periods, leading to an advanced and profound degree of hearing loss. Al-Anbari added, “Cochlear implantation in patients of this age group is a critical and decisive procedure to restore lost hearing, especially when the loss is severe and conventional hearing aids no longer offer any benefit.” The specialist confirmed that the medical team successfully performed the cochlear implantation, effectively replacing the damaged inner ear function with a cochlear implant device. The patient safely left the operating room and is currently in recovery, preparing for the activation of the implant, which will enable her to regain effective hearing and reconnect with her surroundings
