uccessful Laparoscopic Removal of Bleeding Ulcerative Colon

A surgeon from Karbala has announced the successful completion of a significant laparoscopic procedure to remove the colon of a local patient who had suffered from chronic ulcerative colitis for over ten years. The surgeon confirmed that the patient is now in stable condition.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Haj, a specialist in colorectal surgery at Alkafeel Hospital, stated, “We recently performed a major procedure on a patient from Karbala, during which we laparoscopically removed the colon and rectum. The surgery was conducted using four small incisions in the abdominal wall, followed by the creation of a neorectum from the terminal ileum and its attachment to the anal canal.” According to Dr. Al-Haj, the patient, who is in his forties, had suffered from chronic ulcerative colitis for more than a decade and had consulted numerous physicians and medical centers without achieving a lasting response to various treatments. He added, “In recent months, the patient began to experience severe rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, and significant tissue changes in the colon and rectum, which made surgical intervention unavoidable.” Dr. Al-Haj affirmed that the patient was thoroughly prepared for the operation beforehand, which was successfully completed thanks to the availability of advanced laparoscopic technology at the hospital, as well as the extensive expertise of the surgical and anesthesia teams in handling such complex cases. He concluded by confirming that the patient’s condition is currently good and stable following the operation.
