Young Man Regains Hearing Through a Delicate Ear Surgery

Precise Otologic Procedure Restores Hearing at Alkafeel Hospital
A specialized team in Otolaryngology (ENT) at Alkafeel Hospital in Karbala successfully restored hearing for an 18-year-old patient from Karbala who was suffering from an advanced case of mastoiditis.
Dr. Hesham Al-Mousawi explained that the patient’s condition involved retraction of the tympanic membrane, which led to hearing loss, ossicular chain fixation, and purulent ear discharge. The case required a meticulous surgical intervention to restore the ear’s function and prevent further complications.
He added that the surgery involved cleaning the infected mastoid bone, opening the posterior and middle ear canal, and releasing the affected auditory ossicles. To reconstruct the tympanic membrane, a cartilage graft was harvested from one of the patient’s muscles and carefully shaped to replace the damaged eardrum.
Dr. Al-Mousawi described the operation as an example of the precision and excellence of otologic surgeries performed at Alkafeel Specialty Hospital, emphasizing the team’s ability to handle complex cases using innovative surgical techniques. The patient regained his hearing successfully following the operation, marking another notable achievement for the hospital’s ENT department
