Correction of Double Spinal Deformity for a Young Girl from Basra

A Lebanese spine surgeon at Alkafeel Hospital has announced the successful correction of a complex double spinal deformity in a 13-year-old girl, highlighting the hospital’s advanced surgical capabilities comparable to those found in top French medical centers. Dr. Bilal Hashash, a Lebanese specialist in spinal surgery at the hospital, stated: “We recently performed a spinal correction surgery on a 13-year-old patient who was suffering from a double curvature—45 degrees in the thoracic region and 70 degrees in the lumbar region. This caused her severe hunching and chronic pain for over a year.” He explained that the procedure involved extensive realignment of the spine and stabilization using screws and metal rods, resulting in complete correction of the deformity. “The patient will be able to stand and walk within 24 hours after the surgery and is expected to be discharged two days later to her hometown in Basra,” Dr. Hashash added.
He also emphasized the use of intraoperative nerve monitoring technology during the surgery, a critical measure to prevent complications in such delicate procedures. The surgeon praised Alkafeel Hospital’s technical infrastructure, stating: “The advanced surgical systems available here are on par with those found in the hospitals of France, where I regularly practice”.
