A medical team specializing in orthopedics, fractures, and joints at Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital in Karbala announced the success of a complex arthroscopic surgery on a young man suffering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus after sustaining an injury on the soccer field.

Dr. Ahmed Suleiman said, “A 20-year-old man from Baghdad who plays soccer came to us suffering from a severe injury consisting of a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and a tear in the lateral meniscus, which led to joint locking and a complete halt to his athletic activities.”

Dr. Ahmed Suleiman explained that “a single arthroscopic procedure was performed with complete success. During the procedure, a new cruciate ligament was implanted by harvesting ligament tissue from the patient’s own body, processing it, and implanting it with high precision, as well as suturing the damaged lateral meniscus.”

Suleiman emphasized that “the surgery was a complete success, by the grace of God; the patient was able to stand on his leg the very next day after the procedure, and he is scheduled to gradually resume walking and return to the playing field in full fitness once he completes the physical therapy and rehabilitation phase.”
