The Movement Disorders Center at Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital announced that it is offering advanced medical and surgical services to patients with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and chorea, in a significant step that puts an end to the hardship of traveling abroad.
Dr. Heba Abdul Amir, a functional neurosurgeon at the center, stated, “These disorders respond effectively to ‘deep brain stimulation’ (DBS), which involves implanting a sophisticated device to stimulate the areas of neurological dysfunction deep within the brain.”
Abdul Amir emphasized that “this major surgery is now performed with a high degree of efficiency within the hospital,” stressing that “treatment does not end with the surgery alone, but depends primarily on periodic programming of the device and future follow-up, given the nature of these degenerative diseases that require monitoring of symptoms that recur annually, thereby saving patients the costs and effort of traveling abroad.”
