The National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Safety has launched a specialized training course in radiation protection for professionals in this field, which is an essential part of the requirements for obtaining official work permits.

The course was organized jointly with the Nuclear Medicine Center at Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital in the holy province of Karbala, with broad participation from staff working in healthcare institutions across various provinces of Iraq.

Mr. Haider Abdul Zahra, Director of the Training Department at the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Safety, stated, “The course is aimed at all workers in the field of radiation, whether in radiology departments or those who deal directly with radioactive sources, and its primary goal is to educate workers on the mechanisms for safely handling radioactive sources, as well as to enhance the level of protection for patients and visitors near radiology rooms, thereby ensuring the application of the highest standards of radiation safety and security.”

Abdul Zahra noted that “the course spans five days, with the first day devoted to covering the basic principles of radiation, the fundamentals of radiation protection, and the basic concepts of atomic structure,” adding that “what encouraged the Authority to hold this course at Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital was the high level of coordination and excellent organization, along with the significant support provided by the hospital administration to ensure the success of this national training event.”
