A specialist medical team at Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital in Karbala has successfully performed a complex and precise surgical procedure on a patient who had been ravaged by pain and deprived of normal mobility, enabling her to regain her ability to stand and walk with confidence.
Dr Barir Al-Asadi, a consultant in orthopaedic, fracture and joint surgery, stated: “We performed a knee replacement operation on a patient in her seventies suffering from severe osteoarthritis in the joint,” noting that “the risk of the operation lay in the difficulty of anaesthesia, as she suffers from chronic illnesses and is unable to lie on her back on the operating table, and she also suffers from osteoporosis.”
Al-Asadi explained that “these integrated medical efforts at Al-Kafeel Hospital were crowned with success, as Dr Mohammed Sami, the anaesthetist, administered regional and spinal anaesthesia with great skill, overcoming all these difficulties and paving the way for the surgical procedure to be carried out safely” .
The consultant in orthopaedic, trauma and joint surgery emphasised that “thanks to the exceptional skill of the medical team at Al-Kafeel Hospital, the operation was carried out with complete success and without any significant complications; the patient was able to stand and walk the very next day and begin her rehabilitation programme to return to her normal life”.
