A specialist medical team at Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital in Karbala has successfully restored the sense of hearing to two-year-old ‘Fadda’, following a difficult ordeal with the silence caused by meningitis.

Dr Yassin Adib, a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon, stated:“The two-year-old girl from Diwaniya Governorate came to see us with her parents, suffering from complete hearing loss as a result of a previous bout of meningitis. This was a difficult and complex case, as the disease had led to calcification of the cochlea, creating a major challenge in that there was insufficient space to implant a cochlear implant using conventional methods.”

Adib explained, “After strenuous efforts and full cooperation with our medical team at Al-Kafeel Hospital, we were able, by the grace of God, to overcome these extreme difficulties and implant the device with complete success; tests showed that the neural response was excellent.”

The consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon added, “This step opens up a world of possibilities for the little girl to grow, hear and learn just like her peers,” emphasising that “our medical staff will continue to provide the highest standards of advanced care for intractable cases.”
